What are these tiny bumps on my upper portion of my arms?

Do you have bumps on your upper arms? Do you ever wonder what they could be? There are a variety of reasons why tiny bumps may appear on the upper portion of your arms. Are your arms exposed to cool air? Are you experiencing strong emotions like fear? Do they go away pretty quickly? If so, they may just be goose bumps, a sympathetic nervous system response for many fight-or-flight situations. On the other hand, do they last for a long time? Do they itch? Does the skin around your arms feel very dry? If so, they could be caused by eczema, a skin condition with no known cause, although they seem to run in families and affect people with allergies or asthma more so than others. Eczema is a relatively common skin condition in the United States. The most common type, called atropic eczema, is associated with itchy, dry skin that may develop into a rash. The areas affected often look dry and scaly and may look very “bumpy.” According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, eczema is becoming increasingly common, particularly in infants and children. It usually is not very serious and can be treated with lotions and creams. So even if your eczema, don’t worry too much. Use lotion to keep your skin moist or see your doctor for a prescription strength cream.
